In the middel of the 1990's, past owners of a shop, Birthe and Jørgen Krogh- Poulsen along with the center society decided that Søndervig needed a town gate situated along the three main roads into the town.
The artist Per Frøsig from Frederikshavn was chosen to designe the gates and he later tells that his inspiation came from his first ever visit to Søndervig, where he came driving and saw the town rise in front of him.
The townsgate i boatformed. The base symbolises the houses, the left side the dunes, waves and sun, the right side symbolises the Danish flag and the
cross in the right corner is to remind you that you are now entering Søndervig. The red coloure is to honour the old dune farmers and the blue coloure is for the sea and endless sky.
