World's first Rose Hip Festival held in Søndervig

In connection with the world's first Rose Hip Festival in Søndervig held on Sunday, 14 August, there were seven participants in the contest regarding who could pick the most rose hips in a set time period - wearing only a bathing suit. Six girls and one boy went to Søndervig in the pouring rain, each carrying a bucket. In the course of 10 minutes they had to pick as many rose hips as possible. They demonstrated a lot of pluck by picking rose hips in bare arms and legs.

The winner was 13-year-old Matti Jacobs from Ringkøbing with 1.98 kg. Runner-up was 10-year-old Laura Askjær from Hvide Sande with 1.15 kg. She said she had practiced for several days prior to the contest. Coming in third was 10-year-old Karoline Jensen from Hvide Sande with 1.07 kg rose hips.

Rose Hip Seed Remover of the Year 2011
The seven contestants vying for removing seeds from the most rose hips in a set time period were not tested for doping as one humorous onlooker otherwise suggested. The contestants were deeply concentrated during the contest, especially Gilbert Yunan from Germany who won by removing seeds from 274 g of rose hips in 15 minutes. Runner-up was Trine Christensen from Hvide Sande with 231 g while third place went to Kirsten Hansen from Søndervig with 217 g. The winners were awarded a trophy and gift certificate to be used in Søndervig Centerforening's shops and restaurants.
